It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Raia, age 84, of Monmouth Beach, announces her passing at her residence on April 30. Mary was born Mary Saieva on February 4, 1936 on Staten Island, NY, where she grew up.

On June 17, 1956, Mary and Benedict Raia were married and began their life together. Mary supported her husband’s construction business, J. Raia & Sons, while raising their three children, Joseph, Linda and Mary Jo, on Staten Island. In the summer of 1968, Mary and her family began to spend summers at the Channel Club Marina in Monmouth Beach. Boating and being near the water were Mary’s biggest joys and filled her life with many close friends and happy memories.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Carl Saieva, and siblings Mario Saieva, Frances McDonough, Lillian Doro, and Josephine Miceli. She is survived by her loving husband Benedict; son Joseph, of Chatham, NJ, and his wife Eileen; daughter Linda Berry, of St. Thomas USVI, and her husband Claude; and daughter MaryJo Collins, of St. Davids, PA, and her husband Rip. She is also survived by her sister Florence, “Jenny,” Finizio. Mary was a loving and devoted grandmother to her eight wonderful grandchildren: Christine Esteve, Lauren Taylor, Matthew Berry, Robert Collins, Grace Collins, Thomas Raia, Jack Collins and Henry Collins. She was also a proud great-grandmother to her six beautiful great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Esteve, William Esteve, Grace Taylor, Lyla Collins, Harry Esteve and John Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
