Jack Donovan Fowler

Jack Donovan Fowler, age 97, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Red Bank, NJ.  He was born on a farm outside of Lincoln, Nebraska, rode a horse to a one-room schoolhouse and  hitchhiked to the University of Nebraska, graduating in May, 1942 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  He immediately enlisted in the Army as WWII was raging in Europe.  After becoming an officer, Jack was sent by troop train to Little Silver, NJ.  The troops were marched double time, in the middle of the night, down the road to Ft. Monmouth.  In May of ’43, having never seen the ocean, he ventured to the Asbury Park boardwalk where he fortuitously met and fell in love with Grace Valentine.  They married later that year and enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Frederick Colmorgen, Jr.

Frederick “Fred” G. Colmorgen, Jr. died Friday, April 13th, at the age of 81, after a 20 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Fred worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Shorelands Water Company, retiring in 2001.  Before Shorelands Water Company, he worked at Keansburg Middletown National Bank.  Fred was a volunteer firefighter for Red Bank Relief Engine Company for over 50 years.  He was a member of the Middletown Reformed Church and a lifelong member of the Reformed Church of America.

Dorris Timothy Butner

Dorris Timothy Butner, 77, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2018.  Tim was born in Merfreesboro, TN.  He served in the US Navy on the USS Shangralia as a Gunner’s Mate for four years. 

Tim was a driver for FedEx for 35 years.  He worked for the Monmouth County Park Service as a Seasonal and Park Ranger for five years.

Tim is predeceased by his parents James and Eddie Lee; his wife of 42 years Virginia Helen and his sister and three brothers.  He is survived by his fiancée Cathy Barfield; his daughter MaryLynn Wilson and her husband Kenneth of Washington Twp; his son Edward Butner and his wife Beth and their daughters Tealia Butner and Jewelia Butner, all of Millstone Twp;  and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 15th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 16th at 10 a.m.  at St. James RC Church, 94 Broad St, Red Bank.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

 

 

Richard Rizzo, Sr.

Richard Rizzo, Sr., of Freehold, NJ, passed peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2018.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, he is survived by his children Richard Rizzo, Jr. and Dana Catapano; his two grandchildren Christian and Tyler; his daughter-in-law Danielle and his sister, Marie Mehl.  He is also survived by his long-time partner, Debby Hemschoot, and her five adoring grandchildren.

Richard worked at MSC for 30 years and was Manager of Customer Service for MSC in Port Newark, NJ.

Roger W. LeValley

Roger W. LeValley, 83, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2018.  He was born in Long Branch to Lawrence and Ruth (Thompson) LeValley.  Before and into his teen years, he was an accomplished roller skater and performed ballroom dancing on roller skates at the Singing Wheels Arena in Shrewsbury (now the World Market).  He graduated from Shrewsbury Borough School in 1949 and Red Bank High School in 1953.  He was a Shrewsbury resident all of his life.

Roger started his business career with Progressive Life Insurance Company, Red Bank, during his senior year in high school.  After thirty-six years of service with Progressive, he retired in 1989 as Senior Vice President and Secretary of the company.  He then pursued his hobby of floral designing on a full-time basis; having done so on a part-time basis for over fifty years.  For the last ten of his active retirement years, he was a crossing guard for the Borough of Little Silver. 

Patricia McAdams Aberle

Patricia McAdams Aberle, born  in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Helen S. Trautner McAdams and the late Ignatius McAdams, passed away at age 83 on April 2, 2018 in Sunnyside Manor, Wall. Patricia was proud to have attended Little Flower High School and Loyola University.

Patricia was predeceased by her beloved siblings, Ignatius McAdams, Helen Foley and Susanna Kling. She is survived by her 5 sons, Stephen, Michael, Matthew, Timothy, and James; 2 daughters, Patricia Aberle and Susan Gullion; daughters-in-law Ulrike, Kristen and Jean, son-in-law Tom Gullion, 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Patricia is survived by her former husband of 25 years, Stephen P. Aberle, Sr. of So. Carolina.  She is also survived by Martin Nesbitt whom she loved very much.  

Helen Ann (Houston) Decker

Helen Ann (Houston) Decker, 89, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ, following a long illness. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she then resided in Convent Station, before settling in her summer home in Monmouth Beach, where she has lived for the past 20 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Robert S. and Helen L. (Engel) Houston; her husband, Kenneth M. Decker, Sr.; her brothers, Edward K. and Robert E. Houston; and her sisters-in-law, Sue and Joan Houston. Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in law, Kathryn M. Decker-Scheetz and Thomas and Anne C. Bogner and Joseph, all of Monmouth Beach; her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth M. Decker, Jr. and Linda of Far Hills; her four grandchildren, J. Matthew Bogner and Danielle of West Long Branch, Elizabeth A. Bogner of Monmouth Beach, K.M. Jake Decker of Far Hills, and Helen Ann D. Scheetz of New York City; and her three great-grandchildren, Francesca and James Bogner and Nicodemus Bogner-Booth.

Americo "Rick" DeNoia

Americo “Rick” DeNoia – Prominent Monmouth County Lawyer

Americo “Rick” DeNoia, 66, died after a short illness at Riverview Medical Center on March 22, 2018.  He was born in Summit New Jersey in 1951, the son of the late Americo and Angelina DeNoia. He graduated Summit High School in 1969. He then went on to college at the University Of Virginia, from where he graduated in 1974. While at UVA he was President of his fraternity. He earned his law degree cum laude from Seton Hall University in 1978.  After passing the bar, he started his law practice in Monmouth County initially in a group practice and then later in solo practice in Red Bank NJ.

Craig C. Sergeant

Craig C. Sergeant passed away unexpectedly on March 22 at the age of 71 in New Brunswick, NJ. Craig was born in 1946 to Raymond and Dorothy Clarke Sergeant in Red Bank, NJ. He grew up in Red Bank, graduated from Red Bank High School in 1964 and then from Albright College in Pennsylvania in 1968. He lived his entire adulthood in three different homes in Fair Haven, NJ, a town he adored and planned to never leave. 

Craig was known among his family members and friends for his dedication to his family and his close and loving relationship with his wife, Pamela. Pam was his high school sweetheart and best friend. They were happily enjoying and celebrating their 50th year of marriage. Their relationship exemplified a model for love and respect. He was dedicated to his three children and six grandchildren. He enjoyed being involved in their lives and activities, perennially the consummate fan, audience member, coach and teacher. 

Henry A. Diodato

Henry A. Diodato, 77, of Red Bank, NJ, passed away on March 10, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. As he departed this life, he was surrounded by his loving daughters. 

Henry is a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Henry’s military service was followed by a long career with Linden Motor Freight and Stavola Construction. He will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, his love of 50’s music earning him the nickname “The Big Bopper,” enjoying a good cigar, and being a devoted husband, father,  and grandfather. 

Walter T. Wolejsza

Walter T. Wolejsza, 92, was reunited with his wife, Ann, on March 7, 2018. He was born and raised in Brooklyn and resided in Lincroft for the past 59 years. He met Ann while working in the Defense Industry in the 1940’s. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War 2in the Philippines. He served in the Korean Conflict as well. 

Walter worked for New York Telephone Company and later retired from Lucent. He was a Life Member of the Lincroft Fire Company. Walter was also a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He had a passion for golf, bowling, and was an avid sports fan.
