Anna Ritacco Fitzpatrick, age 79, of Matawan, NJ, passed peacefully into God’s arms on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Springhill Nursing Home, Matawan, NJ.

Anna was born at home in Nutley, NJ. Anna was the fourth of seven children born to the late Joseph and Mary Aiello Ritacco. Anna attended elementary school at Holy Family Catholic School in Nutley, NJ and graduated from Nutley High School in 1959.

Anna began her professional career in banking at People’s Bank in Belleville, NJ as a teller. She worked her way through the ranks eventually being promoted to Vice President of Commercial Lending at Broad National Bank in Newark, NJ, where she worked until 1991. In 1992, Anna switched career paths and became a real estate agent with Caldwell Banker Real Estate in Holmdel, NJ, making the Million Dollar Club in multiple years during her agency career.

Anna met her late husband Neil Jerome Fitzpatrick at her place of employment and they were married after a brief engagement. They spent 49 blessed years together.      

Anna loved to travel, in her youth she traveled abroad visiting Europe and Italy on several occasions. Her most memorable being those spent with her best friend Marianne Restivo. Anna and her late husband Neil also traveled extensively in their retirement to Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Italy, as well as other adventures.

One of Anna’s favorite past-times was spending time at the Jersey Shore with her family and her large extended Italian family. Anna was an avid reader and would spend an entire day at the beach reading. She has passed her love of reading on to her children and grandchildren. Anna was also known for her cooking skills, her specialties were Italian dishes including gravy, lasagna, and stuffed peppers and shells.

Anna loved her family fiercely and was the glue keeping all of her extended family connected. She would always host Christmas Eve, serving up her famous seven fishes dinner and would fill the entire house with family. In her later years, Anna stayed connected with her family with weekly and daily phone calls, dishing out some good old-fashioned guilt trips as often as she felt they were needed. Anna and her tremendous capacity to love will hold her family together long after her passing.  

Anna is survived by her four children and their spouses, KellieAnn and Vincent Capatasto of Cliffwood, NJ, Kathleen and Jesus Powers of Jackson, NJ, Kevin and Christine Fitzpatrick of Clermont, FL, and Kristen and Mark Riley of East Brunswick, NJ; her ten adored grandchildren, Gianna, Sophia, Salvatore, Noelle, Hailey, Rosa, Shawn, Michael, Christopher and Markus; her younger sister Immaculate (Margie) and Imre (Jimmy) Friesz, of Flemington, NJ; and an extensive list of loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband Neil J Fitzpatrick, brothers - Frank Ritacco, Cosmo(Gus) Ritacco, Joseph Ritacco, and her sisters Rose (Dolly) Cavalli and Josephine Ritacco.

Visitation will be Sunday June 20th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ. A  Mass of Christian Burial  will be celebrated on Monday June 21st at 10am at St James Catholic Church in Red Bank, NJ. Burial will follow the service at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, NJ.  In lieu of flowers please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
