Allison Taylor French, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, November 5th at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation in Shrewsbury, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.

Al was preceded in death by his son Allison “Ty” (1991) and his wife of 57 years Beverly Wunderley French (2011).

Al is survived by his sons Randall and his wife Carol of Eatontown, NJ, and Kendall and his wife Kathy of Gainsville, FL, and his daughter Lucinda and her husband Sean Murphy, and his grandchildren Taylor, Renny and Rorey all of East Hampton, NY.

Al was born in Orlando, FL, and later moved and grew up in West Palm Beach, FL, and attended Tulane University in New Orleans.

Al worked for the family business Carson Groves in Frostproof, FL, Management Research Institute in Orlando, FL, Florida Farm Bureau in Gainesville, FL, and retired from the US Department of Agriculture in Gainesville, FL and Washington, DC.

After retirement, Al and Bevy moved Shelter Island, NY to be nearer to their grandchildren.

Al was active in politics and current events and was a champion of conservative causes.  He was able to speak publically with ease and clarity and also tell a good story to friends.  He was an avid reader, and read two newspapers from front- to-back every day.  He was interested in many things and had many hobbies throughout his life including auto racing, sailing, hunting/shooting, model airplanes and fishing.  Al was an enthusiastic Florida Gator and Washington Redskins fan.  He desired to excel at whatever he did.

Al loved and cared for his family – he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 11th from 4 to 7 pm, with a prayer service at 6:30, at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory may be made online to Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation (www.rls.org).
