Milan M. Sowis (85) of Thornbrooke in Shrewsbury, formerly of Allenhurst, died on Tuesday, May 10th.
Born in Newark to Slovakian parents, he grew up in Irvington. After graduating Irvington Schools, Milan went on to get his engineering degree at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken and then his Masters at Lehigh. He started his career with Western Electric in Newark. He then moved to Bell Labs/ATT as a systems analyst and becoming the Department Head. While at Bell Labs he met Sandra, who was the Food Service Director, and they began their 38 year journey together.
Milan was a 35-year member of the Allenhurst Beach Club and swam everyday in the saltwater pool. He loved horse racing at Monmouth Park, morning coffee at Cravings, the NY Times crossword puzzle and especially the Yankee Games with Joe.
Milan and Sandra travelled the globe after retiring and had a happy, adventurous and joyful life.
Milan is survived by his wife Sandra, his daughter Jasmine and grandsons Antonio and Georgio; his brother Thomas and his wife Phyllis, nephew Tom and niece Kristen and their families all of Baltimore; his cousin Libusa and her daughters of Germany and many wonderful friends.
A Celebration of Milan’s Life will be held on Wednesday, May 18th at 3 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank. In lieu of flowers donations to the VNA Health Group, 23 Main St, Suite D1, Holmdel, NJ 07733 or Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Ave, #203, Roseland, NJ 07068, would be appreciated.
