Richard W. Jesmajian left a void in our hearts when he departed this earth on 8/20/22. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1947 and grew up in Valley Stream, NY, attending Valley Steam Central High School. He earned his BS degree from Union College, KY, an MS degree in Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson U. and an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Monmouth University. As an adult he lived in Bergen County, Middletown NJ and most recently in Tinton Falls.
He retired from AT&T Labs after 25 years, having also been a part of AT&T long Lines, Bell Labs, and AT&T International. His specialization was in designing distributed application architectures and negotiating domestic and international telecommunication standards. After that he did contract work for Bell South, Tektronics and AT&T Labs. He was currently an Adjunct Prof., teaching computer science courses at Brookdale Community College and Monmouth University.
Beyond any career accomplishments, Richard was a gentle and caring person, always dependable and ready to lend a helping hand to a friend or to assist in any of his wife’s events or projects. He enjoyed amateur photography, playing bridge, furniture reupholstering and attempting to repair anything that no longer worked. His time was made more joyful by the companionship of two miniature poodles who were in his life.
He served on various committees of his condo association and had been a proud member of the Ocean Grove Auditorium Ushers for many years. He was part of a team which has just been successful in enabling adjuncts to become unionized at Brookdale Community College.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice MacPhee, a sister, Donna Johnston and her husband, Dave Roethgen, nieces Jennifer Johnston and husband Tom Duffy and children, Leah and William, and Sandra Johnston and children, Mya and Dylan.
A Memorial Gathering will be on Friday, August 26, 11 AM to 1 PM, with prayers and remembrances at 11:30, at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ.
