John Austin Stibravy
John Austin Stibravy was born in Washington DC. He passed away peacefully on May 3rd 2023 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Son of William Stibravy and Lois Green. Loving husband of Laura Miceli. Beloved father of Matthew Miceli along with his wife Terren-Lee and grandson Rein. Treasured by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeannette and Peter Lepre. Survived by his brothers Robert and Richard Stibravy.
John was raised in Elizabeth NJ. He attended the Pingry School and was a member of the fencing team. He is a graduate of Davis and Elkins college. In 1972, John joined the airforce where he worked primarily as an instructor in the silos of Kansas. During this time, he graduated with a dual PhD degree in English and Higher Education Administration. He then taught the Thesis, Technical Writing and Speech at the Airforce Institute of Technology. Upon retiring from the airforce (1992), he taught Technical Writing and Speech at Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio. In 2001, John was hired as an English professor for the United States Military Prep School (USMAPS) where he also coached fencing. He retired in 2017.
John was an avid model train enthusiast. He was a member of the NJ Live Steamers Association, Liberty Corner, NJ for over 60 years. His grandfather, Ralph Green was a founding member of the NJLS. He was also a member of the Jersey Shore Live Steamers, Tuckerton NJ. John was a prolific writer and wrote several books.
Visitation and celebration of John's life will be held on Tuesday, 5/9/23 from 4-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, 5/10/23 at 10:30 am at The Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven NJ 08562. Interment will follow at 12:30 pm at Brigadier General William Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
