Richard B. Bingham

Richard B. Bingham, age 80, of Oceanport, NJ passed away on July 14, 2023. Born February 18, 1943, in Blackfoot, ID to Richard and LaVerl Bingham, he lived in eastern Idaho until he headed east to Columbia University in New York where he earned his B.A. in 1965. Subsequently, Richard studied 17th century French history, with a sojourn in Paris (1968-1969), and received his PhD from the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle in 1972. He taught history for several years at Wheaton College, MA and the College of New Rochelle, NY. Richard was the Command Historian at Ft. Monmouth, Eatontown, NJ upon his retirement.

Richard traveled the world – most of the US, Canada, many Caribbean islands, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Malta, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Mali, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Madagascar, the Seychelles, India, Nepal, South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica. He loved playing board games, doing crossword puzzles, visiting his southern home in Jekyll Island, GA, and trading stocks.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years Charlotte (née Snyder) Bingham, his daughter Anne and two granddaughters, Charlotte and Elizabeth.

Services are private. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
