Donald Joseph Devine

Donald Joseph Devine

Donald Joseph Devine, 89, of Little Silver, New Jersey, passed peacefully into eternal life on September 19, 2023. He was at home, surrounded by loved ones, especially the love of his life, Denise Broderick Devine, his bride of nearly sixty years. Don (affectionately known as “Slim”) was a longtime resident of Rumson. Don was born in 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from St. Peter’s Preparatory School and St. John’s University. He attended St. John’s University School of Law.

Don retired in 1988 as Chairman and CEO of Freeman Securities, a bond brokerage firm originally located in New York. He served as a past President of the Bond Club of New York. He was a current longtime member of Rumson Country Club and Seabright Beach Club. Don was a former member of Navesink Country Club and Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club (where he served as Vice President of the Board).

Don’s priorities were simple and clear. He was a man of deep and abiding faith, a daily communicant who was never without his rosary beads. He was a selfless man who was eternally devoted to his family. Don was happiest when holding hands with Denise, surrounded by his loved ones and could always be found wearing a baseball cap on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s many sporting events.

He was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and James Devine as well as his brother and sister-in-law, James and Dorothy Devine. He is survived by his wife, Denise Broderick Devine and his children Danielle Greene (Gregory); Donald Devine (Kerry O’Shea); and Dennis Devine (Sarah Devlin). He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren: Georgia, Brendan and Lila Greene; Abigail, Patrick, Malachy, Kathleen and Emma Devine and Molly, DJ, Beau and Penelope Devine, all of Rumson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Nativity Church in Fair Haven, New Jersey. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the Mass at Rumson Country Club (Main Clubhouse). Thompson Memorial Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be directed to VNA Health Group, Attn: Philanthropy Department, 23 Main St., Suite D1, Holmdel, NJ 07733, online at www.vnahg.org http://www.vnahg.org/ or by calling 908-309-1188.
