Janice Irene Dobbs Pedersen died Wednesday, March 20, at Monmouth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Jan was born in 1938; the daughter of Harold and Irene Dobbs of Bernardsville, New Jersey. She graduated from Bernardsville High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. Jan was married to her husband Thomas Pedersen in 1962. They had two daughters, Katherine and Caroline. They lived for several years in Lincroft and most recently at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls. 

Jan worked as an educator, most recently as a Learning Assistant at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Most of all, Jan was a wonderful, loving, caring and devoted friend, wife, mother and grandmother. Some of her favorite activities were reading, cooking, gardening and watercolor painting. Jan had strong religious faith and worked as a religious educator and as a Presbyterian Deacon and Elder.

Jan was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Pedersen; daughter Katherine “Katie” Pedersen and granddaughters Matilda and Phoebe McNeely; daughter Caroline “Carrie” Pedersen Hudak (husband Paul, and Paul’s children and grandchildren); brothers James Dobbs (wife Petra), Stephen Dobbs (wife Margaret), and Douglas Dobbs (wife Sally); sister-in-law Linda Hirschy; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation will be held at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank, this Sunday, March 24, from 2 to 5 PM.

The funeral service will be at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury, on Monday March 25, at 11 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury.
