Barbara K. Bayer

Barbara K. Bayer

Barbara K. Bayer, age 85, peacefully passed away on March 9, 2024 after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Barbara was raised and lived in Maplewood, NJ for most of her life and graduated from Columbia High School in 1957.

Barbara married Joseph Bayer and lived the Navy life in Hawaii where children Tracy and Paul were born. Following a few years in Honolulu, the family settled back into life in Maplewood adding Robert and Rich to the family.

While raising a family, Barbara worked at Maplewood Bank & Trust and Summit Bank among  others.  Barb enjoyed the Maplewood Junior Women's Club, the community pool, and playing softball (pitcher/outfielder) on the Fire Belles, a Maplewood Women’s League championship team.

Barb and Joe retired to Brielle for nearly 25 years where the children and grandchildren enjoyed Manasquan Beach and boating for many summers. She was a great quilter, chef, and hostess. Entertaining more than 15 people for summer weekend dinners was common.  All were welcome - Maplewood friends, Columbia High classmates of the family, and Brielle locals.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents Anna and Anson Kurtz and siblings Jean, Dorothy, Minalee, Seymour, Albert, and Louis. She is survived by children Tracy (John), Paul (Dawn), Robert, Rich (Lory), her sister Marion (“Mickey”), and seven grandchildren - Jake, JT, Elizabeth, Erin, Sarah, Isabel, and Connor.

Barb had a heart of gold and lived for her family. She had a beautiful spirit with a great sense of humor. She was a loyal friend, giving mother, dedicated wife, selfless grandmother, and beloved aunt and sister.
