Madeleine Cox of Oceanport, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on January 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Philip and Grace Smeds, Madeleine embodied compassion, strength, resolve, and resilience. Her selflessness and caring nature touched everyone who knew her, and her devotion to her family, friends, and faith knew no limits. Having children settled in different parts of the country, Madeleine dedicated her life to growing meaningful and loving relationships with her children and grandchildren. Her children will remember her fierce approach to life and her unwavering love and support. Her grandchildren will forever remember and cherish her “Nanny hugs.”   When Madeleine was not doting on her family, she enjoyed reading, activities at the senior center, and spending time on the beach.

Madeleine is survived by her children William Cox, Jr. (Misty), Dawn Hunter, and Jennifer Ferraro (Frank), her eight grandchildren, Arienne, Trey, Ian, Taylor, Hollyn, Rachel, Mia, and Ella, and her two great-grandchildren, Drew and Murphy who will all miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her son, Philip Cox, grandson, Andrew, and son-in-law, Richard.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th from 4-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 11th at 10:30 am at St. Dorothea’s Church, 240 Broad St, Eatontown, NJ 07724. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org/.
