It is with a heavy heart filled with amazing memories, we share the sudden but peaceful passing of Elizabeth Ann Gill this past Friday evening at her residence in Tinton Falls.
Elizabeth was a kind, loving, fun, classy, and talented woman. She was an amazing, caring mother and grandmother who never stopped being a voice of experience and reason to all who she loved. She greatly enjoyed her family and dear friends, traveling, cuisine, fashion, and creating amazing food at home.
Elizabeth, aka Betty Ann or in NY la Betty nicknamed by Matt Gill her cousin, was born in Red Bank NJ to Thomas & Constance Gill of Little Silver, lived in Fair Haven, and moved to Willow Drive in Little Silver where she graduated Red Bank High School. One of her fondest childhood memories were weekends on the Middletown Gill Family Farm Estate with all of her cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Following her graduation, she went straight to the Big Apple as she called it, to pursue her career in Fashion where she became a Runway Model. She started with Junior Sophisticates, then to Mannequin, and then 10+ years with her mentor Anne of Anne Klein, working side by side with Donna Karan and a few close colleagues that traveled 20+ times to Europe. Known to be lovingly “stubborn, that was a key reason she excelled in her career, besides endless talent, never taking no for an answer” per Anne Klein, whom she worked with over the second half of her NYC career.
She loved NY and her career to go with it. She met everyone from Bobby, John, and Jacqueline Kennedy to Liz Taylor and Bob Hope to Doris Day, Cary Grant, and so many more. She was in the heart of the Studio 54 era minus the “funny stuff” as she would say. It was just 2 cans of coke cola and 3 changes of clothes from cab to cab, show to show. Then it was off to the after parties only to get home, sleep 5 hours and do it again. That was until she transitioned her career to embracing being a full time Mom with passion.
She was married to Samuel J Pingitore of Long Branch for 19 years through 1990, had her son TJ in 1976 raising him until she returned to Anne Klein Outlet of Shrewsbury where she worked re-embracing the brand she loved for 9 years. After a tragic building fire in Shrewsbury, she switched roles to JCPenney in Eatontown, bringing her fashion experience to Men’s Suiting. There, she met a friend who she would later refer to as the 2nd love of her life, Edward J. Logan. Prior to Ed’s passing in 2021, they spent 14+ amazing years together traveling, dining out, creating delicious cuisine at home, living life by building great memories, and also keeping in touch long distance with old friends.
Elizabeth got to enjoy her final 3 years in Tinton Falls with her family whom she loved dearly; son TJ Pingitore, Samantha her daughter in law who she admired for her courage, and 2 amazing grandchildren TJ II 5 years old and Mira 2 years old (who would always run in to kiss Nannie every morning and check on her). She never gave up her freedom by still driving, doing her own things, and living her life on her terms. She kept very aware of the world news and loved her country immensely. She is the shining light to her family and will be cherished forever.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at St. James Church, 94 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Committal prayers will follow in the mausoleum chapel at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, NJ. Her cremation will be private.
