Marie Roche Quigley

Marie Roche Quigley

Marie Roche Quigley, 91, passed away peacefully at home in Fair Haven on Sunday, June 8th.

Marie was born in Queens, New York on April 7, 1934 to Thomas and Clare Roche (Conerty). Her father was a lawyer and her mother a schoolteacher. Marie married Richard F. Quigley, Jr. in 1958 and together they welcomed six children:

Kevin, Patricia, Brian, Kieran, Brendan and Terence. The marriage ended in divorce and Marie went back to school and became a Registered Nurse. She raised her family in Lindenhurst, on Long Island, and worked for many years at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Marie retired to the Jersey Shore in 1997 and lived in Fair Haven, relocating to Warwick Gardens in Red Bank for a period of time until she moved back to Fair Haven in 2022. She enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren, taking care of her two cats (Lindy and Jersey), and a good cup of tea. She also enjoyed her part-time job driving special needs children to school with the Murphy Bus Company. A parishioner of Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven, Marie found strength in her strong Catholic faith throughout her life.

Marie is survived by sons Kevin (Regina), Kieran, and Brendan (Elizabeth), all residents of Long Island, New York, and her daughter Patricia (Todd Sherman), of Fair Haven, New Jersey, as well as her two older (!) sisters, Joan Stroh of West Islip, New York, and Sister Clare Roche (Sisters of the Presentation), New Windsor, New York. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Matt, Pat, Mike and Dan; Sam, Ben and Kate, Keri-Ann, Christopher, Thomas, and Amanda; Christina and Jessica; and Meghan and Kristina, as well as fifteen (at last count) great-grandchildren, with another due to arrive this summer. Marie loved them all and the gang liked coming out to Fair Haven to visit “Gram Q.” and going  to the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair each summer. Her memory will be a blessing to her friends and family.

The family would like to thank Marie’s team of caregivers who helped her on her final journey: Gentiva Hospice (especially Karen); Elaine Reid (personal caregiver); Glenn Corregano (spiritual support); and Claire L. Harbeck (pastoral ministries at Church of the Nativity). Marie’s final years on home hospice in Fair Haven were eased immeasurably by the devotion and support of these caring individuals.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13th from 5-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 14th at 10:30 am at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Rd, Fair Haven, NJ 07704. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the 2025 Annual Catholic Appeal, in honor of the humanity and the spirit of Pope Francis.
