Edward Lester Brett (Ed) of Fair Haven, NJ, died July 20, 2026 at the age of 71.
Born Dec 1, 1954, he lived the majority of his life in his hometown of Fair Haven. A graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven HS class of '73, he was an avid and professional photographer, drummer, and drum major. He was involved with the bagpipe world for over 25 years, spending time with both The Atlantic Watch and Allied Forces Foundation. Throughout his life he pursued many interests, from Boyscouts and Seascouts to fishing, to reenacting with the SCA, earning many awards and accolades in his years of participation.
Ed was an amateur genealogist, with a lifelong passion for preserving local and family history through stories, photographs, and records.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lester John and Lois Esther, nee England. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Margaret (Mikki) nee Dougherty of Fair Haven, daughters Leslie (Jordan) Young, also of Fair Haven, Jennifer Brett of Mechanicsburg, PA, granddaughters Clare and Lily Young, and innumerable chosen family.
He lived his life on the square and level, and rests with a sprig of acacia. He was a legend
A Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday, August 30th from 12-3 pm, with a family eulogy at 2:30 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
