Richard “Rick” Flanagan, age 69, of Freehold Township, New Jersey, passed away on August 22, 2026, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Rick was born on July 18, 1957, in Dayton, Ohio, to William and Lucille Flanagan. He pursued a lifelong interest in technology and business, earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Arizona State University and an MBA in finance from Monmouth University.
Rick built a successful career at Nokia Technologies where he served as a Senior Manager of Intellectual Property and Business Development. His work reflected both his technical expertise and his ability to bring together innovation, strategy and business.
Outside of his professional life, Rick had a deep love of music. A talented guitarist, he especially enjoyed playing jazz, blues and rock. Above all, Rick was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family was central to his life and he will be remembered for the love he had for those closest to him.
Rick is survived by his wife, Kimberly Flanagan of Freehold, New Jersey; his daughters, Amy Sutphin and her husband, Ford Sutphin, of Fair Haven, New Jersey, and Lauren Flanagan of Red Bank, New Jersey; his granddaughter, Skye Sutphin of Fair Haven; and his brother, Jim Flanagan of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kara Flanagan-Vega; his sister, Eileen Flanagan; and his parents, William and Lucille Flanagan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home in Red Bank, New Jersey.
