Obituaries

Ann Ferguson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 20, 2026. Ann was born on September 1, 1938. She lived a rich and purposeful life defined by curiosity, service, creativity, and devotion to her family.

Ann graduated from Miss Porter’s School in 1956 and Hollins College in 1960, and spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1958. She married Alfred L. Ferguson III in 1960, and together they shared 65 devoted years of marriage.

From 1962 to 1964, Ann managed the Responsive Environments Laboratory. She also gave generously of her time and energy to her community. Over the years, she served the Girl Scouts of Monmouth County in many capacities, including six years as president, and helped establish the Navesink Rowing Club. She served on the boards of the United Way of Monmouth County, Miss Porter’s School, the Monmouth Park Charity Fund, and the Red Bank Charter School Foundation. She also served on the committee for art collection preservation at Monmouth University and delivered senior meals for many years.

Ann was an accomplished and adventurous woman. She loved painting in watercolor and oils, and her art was shown at galleries throughout the tri-state area. An avid scuba diver, Ann and Alfred traveled the world, diving and pursuing underwater photography. Her enthusiasm for learning, art, nature, and exploration inspired everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Alfred L. Ferguson IV and his wife Victoria, Posey Ferguson Miller and her husband, Chris; eight grandchildren; and her great-grandson, Miles Ferguson De L’Arbre. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, in August 2026. Ann was also predeceased by her daughter, Fall Ferguson. She will be remembered especially for the love and care she gave her children and grandchildren, and for the lasting impact she made in her community.

Her friends will remember her quick wit and spontaneous sense of humor. Ann’s generosity, imagination, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. 

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at Sea Bright Beach Club on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
