Sigrid Yaud McKinney, 86, passed away peacefully on September 27th in the comfort of her home in Little Silver, New Jersey. Sigrid was born in Salzburg, Austria, where she spent her early years.
In the spring of 1958, Sigrid and her mother, Margaret Yaud, emigrated to the United States and began a new life together in the aftermath of the Second World War in New York City. It was there, in 1959, that Sigrid met her late husband, Peter McKinney, on the subway. They were married for 64 years until Peter’s passing in 2024.
Throughout her life, Sigrid found great joy in staying active. She was an avid tennis player and swimmer and loved biking and walking. She was a longtime member of the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club in Rumson and The Sea Bright Beach Club. She treasured her bridge games with friends and especially enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren. Sigrid was also a wonderful cook who took great pride in preparing nourishing meals for her family. She cooked with care and loved sharing meals with those closest to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Herman, and her husband, Clark; her son, Edward McKinney, and his wife, Emily; and her daughter, Jennifer McKinney Bromage, and her husband, Dan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Harry and Sasha Herman of Fair Haven, New Jersey; Kathryn and Peter T. McKinney II of Henrico, Virginia; and Emily and Thomas Bromage of Oswestry, England.
Sigrid will be remembered for her independence, strength, active spirit, and, above all, the care and love she showed her family. Her presence, traditions, and unwavering character will remain with those who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2 pm at St. George's-by-the-River, 7 Lincoln Ave, Rumson, NJ 07760. Interment will be private. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
