Robert Hughes Meyer of Little Silver, NJ, died peacefully at his home, on April 29, 2018, with his wife of seventeen years, Mary, by his side.
Oldest son of Anita Hughes and August Bernard Meyer of Greenwich, CT, he is survived by his wife, Mary Seaman Meyer; his brother John A. Meyer of Naperville, IL and Fort Mill, SC; his sister, Jacqueline Saunders of Burke, VA; his sons James of Darien, CT, John of North Port, FL, Matthew of Hoboken, NJ, and Thomas of Durham, NC; his eleven grandchildren and his twenty-two nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-three years, Sara Dixon Meyer, his brother Edward (Ted), sister Judith Lamborn and his granddaughter Hannah.
Bob was born in Montclair, NJ, and was a graduate of The Canterbury School (1947) and Dartmouth College (1951). He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War, and retired as Vice-President and Board Member of Walter D. Peek, Jr & Sons, a paper brokerage firm in New York City, NY.
Bob was a committed husband, father, friend, and colleague who embodied the Christian values of faith, hope, and love. He was a strong advocate for the mission of the Catholic Church and used his gifts of humility and gentleness to reflect the love of God working in him. He was a gentleman with a winsome character that instantly made him a friend to those he met, and a treasure to those who loved him.
Bob was fortunate to have been married to two strong and wonderful women, whom he loved and cherished. He loved his sons and grandchildren and was blessed to have had the love and fellowship of Mary's family during their seventeen years together.
The family will welcome visitors on Thursday, May 3rd, from 4pm-7pm, at the Thompson Memorial Home located at 310 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, May 4th at St. Catherine's Church located at 110 Bray Avenue, North Middleton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to Missionaries of Charity, 141 Ridge Ave., Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
