Shannon Leigh Watts

Wanderlust. Nurse. Life lover. These are the words that Shannon Leigh Watts used to describe herself. Anyone who knew her would add Beautiful, Caring, Feisty. She had a smile that could light up a room and a kind heart that touched the life of every person she met, including her many patients. Shannon left us on June 14. Her family will remember her for the funny, smart beacon of light that she was. She was born and lived in Red Bank her entire life. She graduated from Red Bank Regional in 2006 with her certification as a hairdresser and cosmetologist.

With excitement and determination, she enrolled in nursing school. She worked for years as a patient care assistant at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, while earning her RN from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft. After graduation in 2017, she began working at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, and started taking courses towards her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at New Jersey City University. She was proud and passionate about being a nurse. Shannon was a natural “fixer.” She loved helping people look better and feel better and also had the enviable ability (learned from riding along with her dad as a girl) to repair any friend’s broken toilet. She would do anything for anyone. She was predeceased by her mother, Mickey Dailey. She is survived by her father, Gaylord (Mike) Watts; her step-mother, Eileen Brennan Watts; her brother, Bill Watts; sister-in-law, Emily, her nephew, Russell; niece Eleanor; her paternal grandmother, Noella Watts, her maternal aunts Linda Dailey and Cindy Dolansky; and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shannon loved her family deeply and a huge part of us died along with her; we will miss her every day for the rest of our lives.

To celebrate Shannon there will be a Memorial Gathering at the Red Bank Elks Lodge (where she was a member) located at 40 West Front St, Red Bank on Sunday June 17th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, including a prayer service at 3:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Red Bank Elks #233.
