Doris Pomphrey Robinson, late of Red Bank, formerly of Rumson and Tinton Falls; age 100. Doris was the daughter of the late Edwin and Olive Pomphrey. She was a 1935 graduate of Rumson High School.
She worked for five years in Washington DC for the Tennessee Valley Authority, providing needed secretarial work during World War Two. She returned to Rumson to help care for her family. She was then a civilian worker for the U.S. Army at Fort Monmouth for 45 years, retiring in 1982. She was a lifelong member of the Rumson Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher as well as a member of their Senior Citizens' Group. After retiring, she gave over 7800 hours of volunteer work, both to Riverview Hospital (from 1974 to 2010) and at the Twin Lights Historic Site in The Highlands for fifteen years.
She was predeceased by: daughter Marie K. Heggie (2016) and son John H. Robinson (1958); and brothers Fred Pomphrey, Edwin Pomphrey, Warren Pomphrey, and Robert Pomphrey. She is survived by sisters Olive (Betty) Newman and Edna Ruscio, six grandchildren: Dorothy-Jean Shedwick (Rev. John); Leanne DeHope (Edward); Alycen Carroll; Robin Mahns (Michael); John P. Heggie, Jr. (Joyce); and Jennifer Blackwell (Jullius); eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, July 19th at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the Rumson Presbyterian Church, 49 E, River Rd, Rumson, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to: Rumson Presbyterian Church or Riverview Medical Center.
Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
