Pauline Trexler Tyler, 99, of Tinton Falls, N.J. formerly of Island Heights, N.J., and Haddonfield, N.J., died peacefully August 19th, following surgery for a broken leg.
She was born on January 28th 1919 in Kempton, Pa., a rural Pennsylvania Dutch farming community. She was the youngest of nine children that lived on the farm and helped with the work of the farm. After graduating from high school, she attended Hahnemann Nursing School in Philadelphia, where she met the love of her life, Charles O Tyler, a young medical doctor who had just graduated from medical school. Pauline continued her nursing career while her husband served in the Navy as a Medical Doctor on a Destroyer in the Pacific in World War II.
After the War, they moved to Haddonfield NJ, where her husband, Charles, established a pediatric medical practice. Pauline spent her time supporting her husband in his practice and raising their two boys, Donald and Stephen. She was always very interested in their athletic endeavors and became an avid fan, attending every football game and wrestling match.
Her love of sports continued as a season ticketholder and fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. She followed the Eagles very closely throughout her life and was delighted to celebrate the long awaited Superbowl victory!
Her own interests included golf, which she played with good friends from her forties until her eighties, and duplicate bridge, which she played until she was in her nineties. She was a lifelong sailing companion of her husband and sons and a member of Island Heights Yacht Club. Polly was well known for her quiet strength and unselfish demeanor. She loved to bake the best chocolate chip cookies for her children and grandchildren.
Pauline is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Charles O Tyler MD, and her grandson, Charles F Tyler, who died in a ski accident when he was 18. She is survived by her son Donald and his wife Ingrid and her grandsons, Scott and great-granddaughter, Savannah, and grandson, Andrew; her son Stephen and his wife Ingrid, her granddaughter Bridget and her husband Michael Mulcahy and her great-grandchildren Cassi, Malia, and Tyler; and her granddaughter Diana and her husband Wesley Heath and her great-grandson Haddon.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Thompson Memorial Home. A private graveside service and internment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Middletown.
