Fred Haedrich, age 92, of Oceanport, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on 9 January, 2019. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1926, he was the son of the late Frederick & Leora (Richtmyer) Haedrich of Malvern, NY.
Fred graduated from James Madison High School in June of 1944. After high school, he attended the New York State Merchant Marine Academy at Fort Schuyler (since renamed the State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College). He graduated in 1946. He went on to serve for 20 years in the Naval Reserve and retired with the rank of Lieutenant.
He enrolled in Brooklyn College in 1946, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He eventually joined the family business, New York Label and Box Corp, a printing and cardboard box business started in 1878 and acquired by his father in 1930. There he worked for years, earning the respect and admiration of both employees and customers along the way. He served as President of the Drug Label Manufacturer’s Association during part of his career.
