Obituaries

Marjorie Watt Pressly Litzelman, 101, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019, her passing guided by the light of the full moon. She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Mecklenberg County, NC to Dr. John Mason & Laura Rebecca (Watt) Pressly.  She was a graduate of the Belmont Academy & University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Class of 1941. That is where she met the true love of her life, Karl B. Litzelman, a “yankee” from NJ, who predeceased her in 2016.  These devoted “Tar Heels” were married for 74 years.    

Paul David McCann II passed away on October 28, 2019 in Red Bank, NJ. Paul David McCann graduated from Middletown Township High School, and went on to get certified in electronics. 1993 marked the beginning of his career at TDK-Lambda Americas Inc as a coil winder that ended in 2015 when Paul retired as an electronics assembler.

Paul was also an accomplished guitarist and guitar instructor who participated in multiple heavy metal bands in the 80s and 90s and played local venues, and shared his gift with his students.

Anthony Joseph Perrotta, Sr., 76, of Manalapan, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he is survived by his three adored children Dorianne, Anthony Jr., and Dana, their spouses Frank, Kathleen, and John; and his brother Kim.  He remains the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Matthew (and his wife Sophia), Robyn, Jamis, Devon Rose, Lilyanna, and Johnny; and his great grandson Alexander.  He is reunited in heaven with his treasured wife and true love of 54 years, Concetta; the parents he worshipped, Louis and Rose; and his cherished sister Lucille.

Owen T. Lynch, 71, of Middletown, passed away on October 22, 2019. 

Owen was born in East Orange, NJ, to Peter and Catherine Lynch.  He was a Stationery Engineer for Prudential Insurance in Newark and worked under Local 68 in Newark for 50 years.

He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Peter.  Owen is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary; his daughter Courtney; his brother Patrick; his sisters Cathy Gethins and Mary Cordoni; and  his beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

James F. Brady (Jim), of Monmouth Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Riverview Hospital.

Jim was born in 1933 in New York City.  His parents, Patrick and Elizabeth, were recent Irish immigrants.  He was the youngest of four:  sisters, Marie and Anne, and brother, Joe.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and was stationed in Naples, Italy as a NATO guard.  He returned home to get his high school GED and went on to obtain a degree in accounting from St. Peter’s College.  Jim subsequently found his way into the garment industry and after a number of years in sales, he had an entrepreneurial calling and co-founded Recess Sportswear.  He worked out of his office in the Empire State Building until his retirement in 1991.

Carol Lynn (Satter) McLean, 70, of New Smyrna Beach, Fl, passed away October 17, 2019. Born in Red Bank, NJ, Carol graduated from Red Bank Regional High School in 1967. Marrying her high school sweetheart, Steven McLean on November 28, 1970, she then went on to begin a 31 year long standing career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. as manager. Retiring in 1997, she moved to Florida with her husband, enjoying 22 years of happy retired life together. 

Carol was a generous, loving, caring wife, sister, aunt and friend loved by all who had the privilege of being in her company and always putting everyone before herself. Carol hosted wonderful holidays and memorable family parties at her home in Little Silver& New Smyrna Beach. She loved animals, 50’s & 60’s music, attending Nascar races at Daytona International Speedway and was an avid fan of the New York Giants.

Adolph S. “Rudy”  Garcia, Red Bank, NJ, and long time Fair Haven resident, passed gracefully and peacefully from this earth on October 20, 2019. 

He was born in 1931 in  San Jose, California.  His Mother was widowed young, worked hard and raised Rudy and his two older brothers to all be fine, decent men.    He served heroically in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Sgt First Class in the Army.  After fighting in Korea, he completed his service in Fort Monmouth, NJ where he met the love of his life, a beautiful green eyed secretary named Mary Rose Maffeo in October, 1953.  

Ann M. Connor of Rumson, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, October 15^th at the age of 90.  She was born in Hoboken, NJ, to Valentine and Mary Smith and graduated from Rumson High School in 1946.

Ann was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Rumson where she was the bookkeeper for many years.  She enjoyed bowling, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her neighbor and big sister, Marion.  One of her favorite pastimes was taking daily and noisy predawn walks to the Oceanic Bridge with Marion, much to the dismay of River Road residents. Ann never grasped the basic compass points as they related to the Two River area, resulting in unplanned sightseeing trips when she encountered road detours.  Unlucky passengers noted her simplified driving style:  she was either accelerating or braking, and nothing in between.  Ann especially liked the volleyball games at family barbeques, where she was by far the worst player; but nobody enjoyed it more or laughed harder at her lack of athletic prowess.

Alvina Daisy Shafto, Lincroft, NJ, was born on November 5th in Brooklyn, New York.  She was the second youngest of eight siblings.   Her mother, Catherine Roehrig, died when Alvina was 15; which left her as the devoted caretaker for her father Leonard. 

When Alvina was in her twenties--much to her father's disapproval--she took a trip with her sister Catherine to the Jersey Shore for the weekend. While on their weekend excursion she met a bartender, Warren "Buddy" Shafto, of Tinton Falls, who on weekends worked at the former “Joey Miles” on First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands.  The two instantly fell in love and wrote letters back and forth until Buddy proposed to her and they got married.   Alvina and Buddy had one daughter, Karen (Shafto) York, of Rumson, NJ.   Buddy passed away on April 21, 1979.   

John R. “Jack” Babeuf, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ died on October 11, 2019 at Care One King James Nursing Home. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jane Wardell Babeuf, in 2008.

Born on February 1^st 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of Ethel Stevenson and Richard Burr Babeuf. Jack resided in Cranford, NJ through High School, and he graduated from Cranford High in 1944 where he lettered in football and track and was voted “best dressed” by his classmates (a status he maintained throughout life). Immediately after high school, Jack enlisted in the US Naval Air Corp where he served in the Pacific Theater. Upon discharge, Jack attended Colgate University and graduated under the GI Bill in three years in 1949 with degrees in Political Science and History.
