Obituaries

Benjamin A Bailey, aged 68, passed away on May 10, 2019 after a short but heroic battle against an aggressive cancer.  Originally from Alpine, NJ, he had resided in Rumson for over 37 years.

He leaves behind three families: his cherished home family, as a dedicated husband (married 47 years), father, brother, grandfather, uncle, son-in-law, and best friend; his work family, as President of Bailey Refrigeration Co., Inc; and his car enthusiast family, as a member of the Porsche Club of America. Ben gave so much positive intensity and knowledge to everything he loved. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the Society of Marine Port Engineers. He graduated Lehigh University cum laude with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1978 after serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War. As an engineer, Ben helped build the foundations of his industry and continued the legacy of the Bailey family with a unique dignity.

Doris Becker Crow, 89, of Rumson and Marco Island, Fla., passed away peacefully Friday, May 31, at home in NJ, surrounded by her three boys. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School. She then went on to work for Mellon Bank and Continental Can, before marrying the love of her life, relocating to New Jersey and raising a family.

Always an active woman, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A lover of life and people, she was known for her quick wit, incredible sense of humor and wonderful story telling. She left a mark on all of those she touched. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed time basking in the sun and floating in the pool.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank W. and Olive (Crawford) Becker; and her beloved husband of 43 years Thomas Seberry Crow. A caring mother especially devoted to her family, she is survived by three loving sons, Thomas Seberry Crow, Jr. of Rumson, Frank Crawford Crow and his wife Stacey of Little Silver and William Becker Crow and his wife Jennifer of Rumson. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, the lights of her life, Thomas, Taylor, Abigail, Jackson and Grace.

Ann Elizabeth Weber Mulcahy passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2019 surrounded by family.  Ann was born in Newark, NJ.  She is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Francis C and Kathryn Weber, and her sister, Kay Oberlander.  She is a graduate of Marylawn of the Oranges and Marymount College in Manhattan.

Ann was a nurse at Monmouth Park Racetrack for 20 years.  Prior to that she was a school nurse at the Fairlawn School in Middletown.

Ann is survived by her husband Paul, whom she was married to for 57 years; her five children, Michael, Long Branch, NJ, Diana Webster (Robert), Doylestown, PA, Charles (Laura), Ottawa, ON, Paula O’Grady (Kevin), Ardmore, PA, and Robert (Kathleen), Wall, NJ; the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Theresa, Tara, Emily, Owen, Kiera, and Brady Webster, Conor, Evan, Griffin, and Molly Mulcahy; her niece, Karen Oertly, grandniece, Jennifer LeDuc, and great grandnephew Remy LeDuc.

Nancy Rineberg passed away peacefully at her home in Little Silver, NJ on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.  She was 69 years old.

Nancy was born in Jersey City, NJ, to Rose Marie & Edward Jannicola. Nancy spent the early part of her childhood in Jersey City before moving to Metuchen, where she attended high school. Nancy received her B.S. in education from The College of New Jersey, and briefly taught elementary school before becoming a full time mother and homemaker.  

She was an avid skier and traveled extensively with her late husband and daughter, but golf was her passion.  Many of Nancy’s fondest memories were golfing with friends and family at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton.

Amely Patricia Raff Elliott, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27th, at Acorn Glen, Princeton, New Jersey where she had resided for the past five years.

Pat was born in Long Branch, NJ on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1929 and thus acquired her middle name by which she was known throughout her life. Her parents were Harry Pound and Amely Erbe Pound, immigrants to the United States from England and Germany respectively in the early 20^th century. Pat also had a brother, Alfred, ten years older than herself to whom she looked up with affection and admiration. The Pound family raised and showed Airedale and Wire-haired Fox Terriers and Pat became a life-long dog lover.

Thomas P. Downing, 89 of Oceanport, NJ, passed away on May 28, 2019, peacefully surrounded by his family.

Tom was born in Brooklyn, NY to his parents Richard and Margaret who were second generation Irish immigrants, originally from the West Village in Manhattan.  Tom’s parents relocated to rural Great Kills in Staten Island when he was very young.  His mother raised him, his sister Catherine, brother Richie and four foster brothers and sisters during the great depression.   Tom graduated St. Peter’s Boys High School and was a proud veteran of the US Army.  Upon returning from the service, he worked a few years for Con Edison before joining the New York City Police Department where he worked for 28 years in Greenwich Village and at Staten Island’s 122 Precinct.  He met and was married 58 years to the love of his life Eileen with whom he raised six children on Staten Island before locating to Oceanport 40 years ago.

David Leo Godvin passed away at the age of 90, on May 21, 2019.

He was born in New Jersey in 1928, to the late John and Barbara Godvin. He resided in New Jersey for most of his life, raising a family in Rumson and eventually moving to Monmouth Beach in later years.

He is the beloved husband of 59 years to Annamarie Helsper Godvin, and loving father of Mark David Godvin and his wife Susan Martin Godvin of Dallas, TX, Michele Louise Godvin Deysine and her husband Gaston Deysine of Seattle, WA, Gregory John Godvin and his wife Lise Christensen Godvin of Rye, NY, Regina Marie Godvin de Gersdorff and her husband Stephen de Gersdorff of Little Silver, NJ, Christopher Gerard Godvin and his wife Marne Wells Godvin of Diablo, CA, John Robert Godvin and his wife Karen Leyh Godvin of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also known as “Pop-Pop,” grandfather to thirteen grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers and sister John Godvin, Paul F. Godvin, Mary Godvin McGillicudy, and Gerard B. Godvin.

Arthur Francis Parent of Middletown, New Jersey, passed away on May 6, 2019. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1938 and resided in the Rumson area with his wife Leslie and two children for over 40 years. After graduating from Ithaca College in 1961, Art served full time in the army while attending law school. He received his law degree from Seton Hall University Law School in 1966.  He practiced law after graduating and fulfilling his military commitment, but found his passion in finance. During his career on Wall Street he worked for Morgan Guarantee Trust Co., Goodbody, Dominick & Dominick, and as Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions at U.S. Filter.  After U.S. Filter, Art became the Chairman of the Board of Allsteel.  In 1998, he founded Cornerstone Management Solutions with several other investors and served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. He was the past Chairman of NJT Holdings, Inc and its subsidiary New Jersey Title Insurance Company.

James L. Anderson, age 75, of Oceanport, NJ, passed away on March 24, 2019, at Riverview Medical Center. 

James is survived by his two daughters, Julie Rossi and Tracy Ciarlante, three wonderful grandchildren, Bryn Rossi, Kaylin Ciarlante and Devin Ciarlante and James has three adoring siblings, Ervel O’Donnell, Jacqueline Diorio and John O. Anderson.

Born in Dumont, NJ, to parents John Otto Anderson and Hilda Voila Everett, Jim was the youngest of four children. His family moved to Edison, NJ, where Jim grew up and graduated from Edison High School. After graduation, Jim proudly served in the United States Army in Korea, during the Vietnam War. Upon his return from Korea James also served in the Honor Reserve.

Jeanette M. Allers, 79, of Fair Haven, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2019, with her husband by her side.

Jeanette was born in Passaic, NJ, to Douglas and Charlotte Miller.  They moved to Belford, NJ and Jeanette graduated from Middletown High School Class of 1957.  She worked for Eastern Associated Innkeepers, Lock Stock & Barrel in Fair Haven, What’s Your Beef in Rumson, Charlie Browns and the Dam Site in Tinton Falls. She moved with Innkeepers, and her husband, to Las Vegas and managed the Jolly Trolley Restaurant, Sassy Sallies, Coin Castle and the Golden Goose all in Las Vegas.
