Obituaries

Nicole Sandra Ashkar (nee Casale), 35, died unexpectedly on Friday April 27, 2018, at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Nicole was born in Belleville NJ, the daughter of Nicholas Casale and Sandra Stellato. She graduated from Lacey High School in 2001 and began her career at the Lacey Township Zoning Commission, where she remained for 11 years before moving on to become a Zoning Officer for Manchester Township in 2013.

Angelina "Angie" Fedor, born in 1928 in Red Bank, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at age 90 on April 28, 2018 in Jersey Shore Center, Eatontown, New Jersey.  Angelina is survived by her loving children, son, William Fedor; daughter, Deborah Fedor and special friend Terry Jones; brothers, Robert Tomaino (Karole) and RIchard Tomaino (Carolyn); sisters, RoseMarie Lister, and Patricia Serafino, sister-in-law Betty Tomaino and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Bruno, James and Nathan Tomaino, and her sisters Jennie Rowe and Mary Tomaino. 

Ruth A. Sonnichsen Binaco of Fair Haven, aged 88 years, passed away on April 24, 2018 at Bayside Manor Assisted Living in Keansburg, New Jersey.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Philip Binaco, in May 2017; her devoted sister Grace Millstone, and her first grandson, David Daniel Binaco.  She is survived by her three sons, Philip Andrew, David (and his wife Kristine), and Matthew. She is also survived by her grandsons Raymond A. Binaco and Russell L. Binaco. In addition, Ruth is survived by her dear sister Marjorie Woods of Florida and her loving brother Thomas Sonnichsen of Virginia, her brother-in-law Raymond Binaco (Terri) and her sister-in-law Flora Deady (Russell), and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret Barry, age 87, formerly of Red Bank, Middletown and Old Bridge, passed away at the Gardens at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls on April 19, 2018.  Born in Renfrew, Scotland in 1931 she and her family came to the United States when she was five years old.  She was a graduate of Matawan High School.  On June 1, 1952 she married William (Bill) Barry and was his beloved wife of 58 years until the time of his passing in 2010. Margaret worked as a secretary for General Cable in Perth Amboy and the Hess Corporation in Woodbridge where she met life-long friends. Her second career was in real estate at Caldwell Banker in Middletown. While there, she loved going on Tuesday Open House tours with her dear friends. Margaret was a member of Tower Hill First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank. After moving to Seabrook Village, she joined the Tower Hill Church Hope Circle and enjoyed the friendship and support of the group. 

James D. Burns, Age 95, passed away on April 23, 2018, at home.  He was born in the Bronx, NY to John and Beatrice Burns. Before moving to Middletown, Mr. Burns was a member of the Junior Vets Tennis Association, was active in Scouting and a charter member of the Hillside Swim Club in Staten Island.

Mr. Burns was a Supervisor for the NY Telephone company and also a bus driver for the Ranney School.  He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua in Red Bank.

He served his Country during World II in the US Marine Corp.

Elizabeth C. Coyne (Betsy), formerly of Lincroft, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 22, 2018. Born in 1951 in Staten Island, NY, she was a resident of Monmouth County since 2006. Betsy enjoyed gardening and was an active member of the Church of St. Catharine.

Daughter of George Coyne, Sr, and Elizabeth Coyne, she is survived by three sons, Christopher, Stephen, and Scott Baldassano and their families. Her greatest pride was her seven grandchildren and being "Nana" brought her joy. She is also survived by three brothers, George Coyne, Jr, Robert Coyne, and Jack Coyne.

Deborah Russell Ellwood passed over into eternal life on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 peacefully in her own home in Highlands, New Jersey. Deb was a graduate of The Rumson Country Day School, Middletown South High School and Barnard College.

In her early career, Deb was a Real Estate Appraiser in San Francisco and in New Jersey and later on ran her own appraisal company called Ellwood Residential Appraisals. For many years, she volunteered throughout Monmouth County, starting as a teen in the Candy Striper Program at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank and in recent years in the oncology ward at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.  She was very active at Christ Church Middletown, the Twin Lights gift shop in Highlands, the Garden State Young People’s Conference (GSYP), and Shore House where she contributed her artwork for their fundraisers.  She was a long time participant in the Community Connections Program in Long Branch and also studied at EFM (Education for Ministry).

Judith J. Woodward (Judy), 83, formerly from Red Bank, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 12, 2018.  Born in 1935, in Red Bank, she was a resident of the borough most of her life.

Mrs. Woodward was a graduate of Red Bank High School Class of 1952.  She met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles (Charlie) in 1953.  While in high school, Mrs. Woodward worked in her mother’s hat shop, The Bonnet Shop, in Red Bank, and helped design ladies hats.  A loving full-time mom and wife, Mrs. Woodward decided to return to the work force when their children were in high school.  She became her husband’s secretary at Woodward Construction Company, where she ran a tight ship for over 20 years.

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Brian Bradley Bowers announce his passing on April 19, 2018, at the age of 37 after suffering a heart attack. Brian will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Cameron Bowers, and her mother, Colleen Davis; his parents, William and Angela Bowers; his sisters, Kim Kiely and Dawn Morgan; his brothers, Michael Ryan, John Beattie, Bill Beattie, as well as his brother for life, George Roxby; and his partner Karen Burr and her daughters, Mia and Ava Burr. The joy of his life was spending time with friends, family, including his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and his many best friends – too many to list, but always in his heart.

Red Bank – Carmen Rice, Age 74, passed away on April 18, 2018.  Carmen was a resident of the Atrium at Navesink Harbor.  She was active in the Salvation Army.  Carmen worked as a Clerk at Foodtown until her retirement.

Carmen is predeceased by her parents Newton Rice Sr. and Carmen Kahn Rice.  She is survived by her brothers Jerry Rice and Newton Rice of Fair Haven;  her sister Joan Rice of Little Silver and six nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 22^nd from 2 to 4 pm, with a service at 3:30, at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank.  Burial services are private.  In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial donation to the Salvation Army, 180 Newman Springs Rd, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
