Obituaries

Jane Corbin, 77 of Wayside, entered God’s presence on March 15, 2009 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at St. Barnabas Hospice Center of Monmouth Medical, Long Branch . 

Born in Port Jervis, NY she resided on Long Island NY and North Plainfield , NJ before moving to Ocean Township in 1977. She was a Medical Technologist and was the Blood Bank Supervisor for St Francis Hospital, in Roslyn , NY . Later on, she also worked as a billing and collection specialist for Dr. Grossman’s office in Tinton Falls and for Omni Health Care before retiring in 1996. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church (Tower Hill), Red Bank. She was past co-president of the Tower Hill Choir, a Deacon, member of the Elizabeth Circle , and active on the Grief Care Ministry Team. She volunteered her time for the SPCA, St James Convent, and for the Boy Scouts of America as a merit badge counselor. Her sense of humor, smile and giving of herself to others were her greatest gifts.

RICHARD TERRITO, 72 of the SHADY OAKS SECTION of MIDDLETOWN, passed away on Monday, March 16th.  

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Staten Island, NY prior to his moving to Middletown in 1991.  He was an alumni of New Dorp High School and was a 1958 graduate of the New York School of Mechanical Dentistry.  First and foremost, Richard loved his family.  He also loved boating and the time he got to spend in Florida with his family.  He owned and operated Richmond Dental Laboratory from 1967-2009. 

MARYANN CHIZMAR, 67, of RED BANK, NJ died at her home on Sunday, March 15, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.  

She was born in Jersey City to Paul and Mary Chizmar.  She spent most of her life living in Colts Neck before moving to Red Bank.  She was a fashion consultant for Bamberger’s department store, and then moved on to Odyssey Travel, where she was a travel agent who specialized in the Caribbean and also a property manager.  She was a member of the Colts Neck Fire Co. No. 2 Ladies’ Auxiliary.  She enjoyed skiing and she was a member of a ski patrol at a Vermont ski area.  After she retired, Maryann became an avid gardener.   

Maryann was predeceased by her step-brother, Paul Chizmar, Jr.  She is survived by her children, Paul Moscatello of Brooklyn, NY, and her daughter Terri Ellis and her husband Jack of Galloway, NJ; her grandchildren, Christopher, Todd, Tara, and Caitlin; and her brother, Joseph Chizmar and his wife Helen of Edison, NJ.

ARNOLD “MICKEY” RATHLEV, 89 of LITTLE SILVER, NJ passed away at his home on Thursday, March 12, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.  

Born in Elmhurst, Long Island, Mickey traveled the world before retiring on Blackberry Creek in Long Branch, NJ. Mickey attended Union College, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and co-captain of both the baseball and basketball teams.  He graduated in 1941 as an Electrical Engineer and was immediately commissioned as a US Army officer.  His first assignment took him to London and the British college of Military Science where he helped with the development of the radar.  At that time, the US entered World War II, and Mickey served in the South Pacific supporting General MacArthur’s island-hopping from New Guinea to the Philippines.

KATHERINE “KATIE” E. ZIMMERMAN, 26 of the RIVER PLAZA section of MIDDLETOWN passed away at Riverview Medical Center on Wednesday, March 4th.

Born in Pittsburgh , PA , Katie and her family have made their home in Middletown for the past 22 years. Katie was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great RC Church, Lincroft where she received her First Holy Communion and was confirmed. Katie was a special needs graduate in the adult program of the Schroth School (Ladacin Network) in Wanamassa.

BRIDGET JOSEPHINE “JOSIE” McDONNELL CLANCY of RED BANK passed away at her home on Sunday, March 1st. 

She was born December 29, 1928 in New York City during the Great Depression to Patrick J. McDonnell and Rose Clarke McDonnell, her loving parents, originally from Castle Blaney, CO. Monaghan , Ireland . She was the first member of her family born in the United States of America . Josie graduated from Julie Richmond High School, Manhattan, New York City in 1947 and St. Francis of Assisi Finishing School also New York City.       She was employed with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., NYC before her move to Ireland and subsequent marriage.

Josie lived in Dublin , Ireland from 1952 to 1959 where she married Fergus J. Clancy of Carrickmacross Co. Monaghan and had three children. She and her young family immigrated to New Jersey , USA in 1959 first settling in Little Silver.         Her family continued to grow with the birth of two more children before permanently settling in Red Bank.       As she said many times, she never wanted to live anywhere else.       She loved her home, enjoyed her neighbors, being so close to the Navesink River and the ocean, along with being a part of a wonderful community.       After her children were raised, she was employed by MCOSS, VNA in Red Bank from 1973 thru 1978, Riverview Hospital, Red Bank-Consumer Education 1978-1982 and Dr. P. Brodsky, Rumson 1987-1992.       She was a parishioner of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank and was affiliated with The Irish Federation of Monmouth County, Middletown . Her hobbies included Irish music and culture, step-dancing, cooking, sewing, computer surfing, continually learning and best of all spending time with her pride and joy, her grandchildren. We are heartbroken, yet full of her life lessons.

MARNA K. McCARTER LORD, 80 of RED BANK died on Wednesday, February 25th. She was formerly of Rumson where she was the past president of the Public Health Nursing Assoc., a member of the Rumson Country Club, the Seabright Beach Club and was also a member of the Monmouth County Welfare Board.      

Katherine Gilbertson Arliss, 20, of Middletown, died in an automobile accident early in the morning of Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. Katherine was born in Red Bank and lived in Middletown her entire life. After finishing at Holy Cross School in Rumson, Katherine graduated from Middletown High School in 2011. Kat was enrolled at Brookdale Community College. In addition, she worked at Pazzo restaurant in Red Bank, where she had many friends and, loved her job. She also found time to care for her ponies, Chewie, Fairy and, her favorite, Copper. For most of her high school years, Katherine competed as a junior in AA national horse shows. She rode several jumpers, hunters and ponies in horseshows in Wellington, Florida and Lake Placid, NY. Throughout her life Katherine was, like her Grandmother Arliss, a remarkably caring and loyal horsewoman. Katherine possessed an internal and external beauty that impacted everyone she met. Also, Kat had a talent and a sincere passion for the culinary arts. Her superb cooking was loved and enjoyed by all. Along with her equestrian talents, Kat inherited her mother's flair for fashion, and she possessed an elegance that surpassed her years. Katherine was a sweet and beautiful soul and her memory and spirit will live on through her loving friends and family.

She is predeceased by her grandmother, (Nanny) Miller, Granny Arliss, Grandpa Miller, Uncle Rick, and her pet, Corgis, Tuddy and Fred. Kat is survived by her Grandpa Arliss, parents Evie and Charley Arliss of Middletown, and her 2 older brothers, Jace and Charlie, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
